Florida Department of Elder Affairs Revokes Registration of Professional Guardian for Violating Multiple Statutory Sections of Florida’s Guardianship Law

TALLAHASSEE – The Department of Elder Affairs’ Office of Public and Professional Guardians (OPPG) has issued a historic Final Order to revoke the registration of professional guardian Elizabeth “Betsy” Savitt for failing to comply with Florida’s guardianship laws. Savitt took fees from her wards before providing services and without court approval in violation of Chapter 744, Florida Statutes.

Update on Emergency Generator Power Rule for Assisted Living Facilities

Rule 58A-5.036, Florida Administrative Code, has been ratified by the Florida Legislature and signed by Governor Rick Scott. Assisted Living Facilities have until June 1, 2018, to come into compliance with the requirements of the rule. For more details, click here.

The Department of Elder Affairs is concerned about the safety of all elders in the State of Florida.

With that in mind, the Department of Health (DOH) has issued a health advisory that it will be distributing to all nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Influenza activity levels are high across both the state the nation. Please review the attached advisory issued from Dr. Blackmore, DVM, PhD, Dipl. ACVPM, Division of Disease Control and Health Protection at the Department of Health. As a reminder, flu outbreaks can be controlled by performing the following: good handwashing, vaccinating against the flu, isolation protocols, antiviral treatment, limiting contact with individuals with symptoms of the flu. More than 1,500 Older Floridians to Celebrate at 18th Annual Florida Senior Day

On Wednesday, January 24, the Florida Department of Elder Affairs (DOEA) and United Way of Florida will host Florida Senior Day, an annual event that will bring more than 1,500 elders and advocates from across the state to Tallahassee to honor the many contributions of Florida seniors.

“We are proud to partner with United Way again to host Florida Senior Day, and we invite you to join us as we celebrate the 5.3 million seniors that are a treasure to our state,” said Florida Department of Elder Affairs Secretary Jeff Bragg. “We have a day of entertainment, awareness, and advocacy planned, and we are thankful for such great partners who will be on-site to share resources and information for all of our guests.”
