TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Department of Elder Affairs Secretary Michelle Branham highlighted Governor DeSantis’ unwavering commitment to Florida’s seniors through his Focus on Fiscal Responsibility budget, prioritizing investments that help them live well and age confidently.

“The Governor’s steadfast dedication to Florida’s aging population has made our state a model for innovative and compassionate senior care,” said Secretary Michelle Branham. “Thanks to his bold leadership, we can continue expanding critical programs that enhance the lives of our seniors, support caregivers, and strengthen Florida’s aging network. His proposed investments demonstrate a deep understanding of the needs of our seniors and reflect a shared mission to ensure they age with dignity and independence while prioritizing government efficiency and streamlining service delivery.”

The Governor’s proposed budget reflects a comprehensive approach to addressing the challenges of an aging population, including increased funding for programs that provide essential in-home services, respite care, and caregiver support. Key highlights include:

Expanding Support for Florida’s Alzheimer’s Disease Infrastructure:

  • $6 million in additional funding for Florida’s Alzheimer’s Disease Infrastructure, encompassing the Alzheimer’s Disease Initiative (ADI) and the Florida Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence (FACE). This funding will expand caregiver respite services, support additional seniors, and enhance resources and outreach for families impacted by Alzheimer’s disease.

Empowering Seniors to Age at Home:

  • $7 million to enhance the Home Care for the Elderly (HCE) program, empowering caregivers to keep their loved ones at home and out of costly institutional care.

Strengthening Community-Based Services for Seniors:

  • $8 million for the Community Care for the Elderly (CCE) program, providing additional seniors with vital in-home services such as meal delivery, personal care, and transportation.

By investing in programs that prioritize efficiency, sustainability, and compassion, Florida remains a national leader in addressing the challenges of an aging population. With the Governor’s leadership and the dedication of the Department of Elder Affairs, we are building a brighter future – not just for today’s older adults but for all of us.
